A Seattle Wedding - Laura & Samuel - June 19th, 2010

It's been a crazy few weeks. I went to Seattle for 5 days, stayed in Vegas for 2 and then was off to Missouri for 4 days for another wedding. Seattle was amazing. It's my favorite city I've ever been to and would be at the top of my list of places to move some day. Although I'm really loving it here in St. George even though it's 106 now.

I stayed at the Ace hotel again, can't say enough about that place. It's very minimal/contemporary is probably the best way to describe it. It's also one of the cheaper hotels in Seattle probably because you have to share a bathroom. It's 3 blocks from Pike's Place. I ate at a few awesome places thanks to Brian Eden (groomsman from the Jan Paris wedding) who always gives me a list of not to miss food no matter where I go. Ended up at Umi Sake House, Lowell's and Serious Pie among a couple others. I could go into a lot of detail about all the amazing things I saw and did, but let's get to the wedding.

Friday afternoon we shot engagement style photos at the ocean with Seattle as a backdrop. Perfect spot for some pre-wedding fun shots. That was the only time I saw the sun while I was there. It rained pretty much the entire trip. Except of course, while I was shooting.
The morning of the wedding Laura & Sam came to pick me up at 8am to head out to Pink Orange to get their hair and makeup done. It was raining pretty hard at that point. I really thought maybe, my luck had run out with the "it never rains when I shoot." But I was positive and when Sam said, "looks like your luck ran out, " I said, "nope, it'll clear up."

When we headed up to the Church, it started to clear up a bit and we went with our original plan of taking a few photos at the University of Washington where Laura & Sam go to school. No rain! We only had about 25 minutes so we raced up the stairs to the courtyard and snapped a few pics in front of the buildings. I was feeling it then, had a couple of Laura's friends helping out. Holding Laura's vail up and then dropping it and running as fast as they could. Think we saw 3 other brides while we were there. It's a pretty popular spot.

The wedding was at the Great Love Church of Seattle in Mount Lake Terrace. I had never been to a Korean wedding before and it was a beautiful ceremony. I love that I was able to experience it. It mirrored most other ceremonies I have photographed, but was different in it's own way. I didn't understand much of what was being said, but I felt it, the emotions and the joy were the same. I was thankful to be there and to be included in their ceremony.

The reception kicked off straight after in the basement of the church. They played games, toasted and celebrated Sam & Laura for the next hour and a half. Again the reception was basically the same as most receptions with it's own uniqueness. For example Laura & Sam were blindfolded for a couple games. The first Laura had to feel, and she didn't really want to, the legs of each groomsman to see if she could pick out Sam's. And Sam had to feel each of the bridesmaids noses to try and choose his bride's. They both chose the right one! Crazy. Reception was a blast. I loved meeting their friends and family. I can't say enough about how courteous everyone was towards me.

Seattle was a blast. Sam & Laura couldn't have been nicer or easier to work with. One of the nicest couples I've ever had the opportunity to be around. I'm so thankful that they trusted me to photograph their wedding.

Going to post Jen & Seth then Jake & Shannon next. We leave for MO in 10 days. Have a lot to do before then.

A St. George, UT wedding - Christie & Nick - June 5th, 2010

Christie & Nick booked with us last year. Originally it was set for Dec, but needed to be moved. We weren't sure when it was re scheduled if I would have the date available, so I was really excited when it turned out to be the only weekend I had available in May/June. Worked out perfectly. Christie and Nick are 2 sweet beautiful people who were just super easy to work with and just very much in love. Most important to them and their day was just having their loved one's with them, celebrating their day. And that's how it should be.
We started the shoot at the St. George Temple earlier in the day. Took some family, wedding party photos there and then off to the reception site. The reception was a lot of fun, dancing, cake cutting, family and friends. I was able to steal them away for 20 minutes or so to get some photos of the two of them outside while the sun was setting.
I had a lot of help and want to give a big thank you to Andrew Gawdun for assisting me. He's been a lot of help to K Hulett Photography in the past few months. Truth be told I was pretty sick during this wedding. Fever and what not. Came home afterwards and pretty much collapsed for the next couple days. But photographers don't get sick. No way. That's why they make DayQuil.
This is up a bit late. I've been in Seattle, Vegas and today in Missouri about to shoot some photos tonight at the Strip at the Lake wedding at Casa De Loco on Saturday. Busy Busy, but it's all good. Love my life and my job.
Seattle pics will be up in a few days hopefully.

A Tulum, Mexico Wedding: Chris and Shanna May 28th, 2010

From Destin to Vegas to Tulum to a wedding here in St. George last weekend. Crazy few weeks. Tulum, though, was a much needed break in between. Our bride was a super sweet, super laid back girl from Missouri. Actually went to the same HS as me, but we didn't know each other. She told me she saw Emily & Tyler's pics from Cancun in '08 and has wanted us to do her pics since. Pretty awesome compliment. Our groom is a navy stud from San Diego. Super nice guy who is very much in love with his girl.

Shot some Engagement style shots the night before the wedding walking around at the beach and the hotel. I was all about the sunrise bridals the next morning, but wasn't so sure if they would be. Six am in Tulum is 4am in Cali. But they were all for it and were all ready to go around 530 am. So off we went, and man it was a colorful sunup. Chris came along and was super supportive of Shanna and was just there in case she needed him. Really really cool.

Wedding started at 11 on the beach with about 30 friends & family. After the wedding we did a little walk around the property taking advantage of some cool architecture. I got pretty excited when I saw one of the workers there carrying some freshly cut palm leaves or whatever they were. The last four pics are from the Tulum ruins. We took taxi's out there after the wedding. Very unique place. Ruins were cool except you couldn't get very close or take a wedding dress in. Which took away from some ideas, but not away from the day. The beach was amazing. It's worth the trip for the beach there.

Everyone was wonderful and friendly from the start. Again Katie and I felt so grateful and welcomed by an amazing couple and their family. Getting down to Tulum a few days early gave Katie and I time to be relaxed, focused and prepared. And on top of that it was such a no stress wedding. Everything was so laid back and it was all so refreshing. It fit them perfectly. Shanna and Chris go down as one of the easiest couples to work with, and one of the most fun to be around. I'm so thankful we had the opportunity to work with these guys and their families.

Been sick the past 4 days so this is up a little late. Have a lot of work to catch up on and off to Seattle/Missouri in 1.5 weeks.
